Issue Journal
Overview: The Issue Journal project requires you to identify a current issue in science and technology, and to collect articles from newspapers and magazines on that topic. You will write commentary on those articles, and will have an opportunity to discuss your chosen issue in the last two weeks of class. The issue you do is of your own choosing, but you should discuss it with me before getting started.
Requirements:
Collect a minimum of eight (8) journalistic articles concerning an issue involving science and/or technology. These articles must come from newspapers, newsmagazines, or publications that specialize in science and/or technology. These publications should be major publications, such as the local paper, The Tennessean, or a major national paper like The New York Times or the Los Angeles Times, or well-known newsmagazines and scientific magazines, such as Time, Newsweek, or Scientific American. The New York Times has a dedicated science section, and articles remain posted for several days on their website. While the point is to collect current articles, if you find you need to use older articles to round out your eight, use nothing older than one year.
For each article write a paragraph (100 words or so) responding to the issues raised in the article. As you collect more articles, your commentaries should reflect a growing knowledge of the subject. In other words, don't write the same thing about every article!
Due Date: This assignment is due Nov 28.
