Henry VIII, King of England

By Wes Weems

The son of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York, Henry VIII (1491-1507) was the father of Elizabeth I. Henry's older brother Arthur died young, only four months after being married to Catherine of Aragon. Henry inherited Arthur's position as heir to the throne, as well as his brother's wife, Catherine of Aragon, and acceded to the throne in 1509 at the age of 17, after the death of his father due to tuberculosis.
